The Blizzard of Oz

March, 2007

After re-touching the final drawing, I was able to paint the entire picture yesterday. It's all done in watercolour and took an embarrassing 4 hours to paint. I went through several sheets of watercolour sketches, before laying it all down in a final.

The assignment was to create an image that has something to do with the Wizard of Oz and would appeal to 12-14 year-old girls. My sister thought the picture was "cute", so I consider the assignment fulfilled. I went through about 20 different concepts before deciding on putting the characters in a winter setting and dressing them up all warmly. I was this close to making Dorothy a goth and giving her red leather boots with buckles...

I also put up a test coloring of the tin man and Dorothy.

I like the studies more than the finish. There's more information. You probably did the larger huh?
