Spacekimo

Photobucket
My very own Spacekimo! Rob James drew me my very own Spacekimo in exchange for a CD I made for We Want Our Friends Back! His drawing is page one of my new sketchbook. which is sort of like having Miles Davis start off your trumpet solo for you. Great. I suck at the trumpet.

Anyway.

Who is the man that rocks the long hair? Rob James!

Who is the man that's comfortable when he swears? Rob James!

Who is the man that draws in his underwear? Rob James!

Three cheers for the James that is Rob in all his Rob-knobbin' and James-gettin' goodness!

I will feed and water my Spacekimo every day. I will tend to its every need, being sure to give it plenty of oxygen, space, and (most important above all) love. Thanks, Rob.

Bears. Snow Bears.

Why didn't someone tell me I liked snow bears so much? I would have started drawing these guys AGES ago!

They have such playful characteristics: their fur, their eensy-weensy head, the black nose and eyes on white bodies...wow.

The snow bears on bottom are so happy because they caught some yummy fish.

Oh, Mighty Wheel, Spin Me 'Round and Around

I'm finding markers, pens and pencils so accessible right now and I've been trying to find out what they have to say to me.

I LOVE the way graphite reacts visually to maker! And the darkness of a pen line over graphite is so delicious! Mmm!

These are some of my latest experiments in the medium. I'm finding all sorts of things suddenly interesting to me that never quite caught my fancy before. Like deer. What's up with that?!!

Caught in Paper Headlights

David Darbyshire wrote a haiku about deer:

elusive, alert
always careful, nice white tail
hunting season starts

Here's my attempt:

Announced by black hooves
bushes shiver with delight
voice of the forest

Mirth Interrupted

Here are a few drawings that are part of a project in the works dealing with ancestry, ritual and the paper landscape. I'm using both sides of the paper--is that allowed?
